On Tuesday, October 11, 2011, the exhibition "Water that takes away hunger", organized by the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability, Action Against Hunger, mNACTEC and the council of Solidarity and Cooperation of the City of Terrassa.was inaugurated at the Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia (mNACTEC).
The "Water that takes away the hunger" is a joint exhibition of the NGO Action against Hunger, which presents "Hunger Market: open 24 hours" and the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability of the UPC "Water to eat: sustainable water management and food sovereignty ", in an exhibition space of 250 square meters.
The opening ceremony, which was attended by approximately 150 attendees, was led by Mr. Eusebi Casanelles, president of the mNACTEC governing council, and was attended by Dr. Jordi Morató, coordinator of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability at the UPC , Mrs. Natalia Anguera, delegate in Catalonia of Acción Contra el Hambre, Mr. Carles Llorenç, General Director of the Catalan Agency for Cooperation and Development, and Mrs. Josefina Soler, Councilor for Solidarity and International Cooperation of the City Council of Terrassa.
The exhibition aims to convey a close vision of the integral management of water, highlighting its importance within the scope of food sovereignty.
On the one hand "Hunger Market: open 24 hours" is a space that allows us to deepen the way in which the local population perceives what happens in regions affected by food shortages, making known the faces and stories behind this problem .
On the other hand, "Water to eat: sustainable water management and food sovereignty" allows us to appreciate the importance of carrying out sustainable water management as part of the necessary capacities to ensure the productivity of the territory, while highlighting the importance of the resource in reducing vulnerability to climate and environmental threats that communities face. Due to the close relationship between these two global issues, both exhibitions have joined efforts in order to have an even greater impact among visitors. The exhibition presents the following contents:
Water for life
Water crisis.
Sustainable water management.
Water and food sovereignty.
Case study (1): The socio-environmental transformation of "Morro de Moravia" in Medellín (Colombia).
Case study (2): Sustainable sanitation and reuse of reclaimed water in the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil.
For the exhibition, a brochure was designed that includes the main aspects of the exhibition.
