WAMU-NET (UNESCO-IHP) confirms the incorporation of the Cauca Museum as a full member of the Network of Water Museums. This recognition consolidates the Living Water and Biodiversity Museum of the Colombian Massif as a leading reference in water heritage, education, and territorial action, and strengthens its connection to UNESCO-IHP’s international agenda.

WAMU-NET (the Global Network of Water Museums, linked to UNESCO-IHP) has officially confirmed the incorporation of the Living Water and Biodiversity Museum of the Colombian Massif as a full member of the Network of Water Museums. This decision recognises the work carried out in the territory to highlight the value of water as both natural and cultural heritage, promote environmental education, and strengthen local water governance through a sustainability and climate resilience approach.
Full membership represents a strategic step forward for the Museum, expanding its capacity for international exchange, technical cooperation, and participation in global initiatives focused on protecting water heritage and biodiversity.
It also opens up opportunities to develop joint projects, thematic exhibitions, educational activities, and spaces for dialogue with other museums and key actors across the network.
In the case of Cauca, this recognition aligns with a vision of a living museum, grounded in community participation, the strengthening of territorial identities, and the articulation of local knowledge with scientific and pedagogical approaches. The Museum aims to contribute to the conservation of strategic ecosystems, the integrated management of water resources, and the intergenerational transmission of water-related knowledge.
As next steps, the Museum will work together with WAMU-NET—with guidance from the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability at UPC—on planning exchange and communication activities, strengthening its international presence and its capacity to generate local impact. This incorporation reaffirms the commitment of the institutions and communities involved to people-centred water management, biodiversity, and territorial sustainability.
