The PhD student and member of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability, Daniela Ávila García presented the work "Natural water treatment systems and ecosystem services in watersheds of the Cauca Department, Colombia", as part of the discussion table focused on the recovery of ecosystem services in restored aquatic systems, within the European Regional Conference of the Ecosystem Services Partnership (Esp), held from 15 to 19 October in San Sebastian.
This event was organized by researchers from AZTI Tecnalia in collaboration with different institutions of the Basque Country from October 15 to 19 at the Kursaal convention center in San Sebastian, Spain.
The ESP is made up of around 3000 researchers and decision makers dedicated to the application of ecosystem services for nature conservation, ecological restoration and sustainable management.
The regional conference in Europe is organized biennially with the aim of bringing together different working groups to discuss and reflect on the progress in research and application of ecosystem services around the world. On this occasion, more than 40 work sessions related to the application of science and research in ecosystem services were organized to improve decision making within and outside Europe.
The event was attended by around 450 researchers, decision makers and members of NGOs, among which recognized experts such as Benjamin Burkhard (Leibniz Universität Hannover), Simone Quatrini (ESP) and Jakub Wejchert (Policy Officer at the European Commission, Brussels) .
