UNESCO Chair on Sustainability promotes agreements about Circular Economy

The Fundació Universitària Martí l'Humà and the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability established a collaboration agreement basis in cowork on concrete actions related to Circular Economy

Establish a joint training and research program in sustainability and Circular Economy is one of the main objectives achieved between the two organizations. The agreement also seeks to advise companies, entities and public administrations interested in implementing the values ​​of the Circular Economy within their activities.


Jordi Salayet Garcia, former director of Fundació Universitària Martí l'Humà, said; "This project is based on moving from the linear to the circular economy. It means that any project must redifine the managing of waste". Through the work of the Foundation, the agreement includes the energy and banking sector, companies and universities, for the implementation of the Circular Economy.


Besides, UNESCO Chair on Sustainability has experience in the implementation of projects related. For example, the implementation of the project about Circular Economy of Water, known as LIFE Reagritech, for the reuse of waters with high nitrate contents, derived from agricultural activity. In Colombia, the Chair works on Circular Economy into the industrial coffee process. In addition, the LIFE Ecorkwaste Project, has worked since 2015 on the reuse of products derivatives of the cork industry.

What is the Circular Economy?


According to Jordi Moratò, director of the Chair, "The Circular Economy seeks to approach a zero waste model. This means that the reuse of materials and waste prevails, which works to the benefit of sustainability with concrete actions according to the affected sector ". The Chair was part of the First report on the situation of the Economy Circular in Spain (COTEC Foundation 2017) and will launch the second edition.
