New UNESCOSOST offices in Brasil and Colombia

Summary
Formalize the UNESCOSOST offices in Medellin, Colombia, and in Salvador, Brazil, through the signing of formal agreements between the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and Tecnológico de Antioquia (TDEA) and Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA).

In 2011 the strategy of establishing different offices of UNESCO Chair on Sustainability (called UNESCOSOST Offices) in strategic countries, through collaboration agreements between two Universities starts. This strategy is formalized during this 2014 with the ratification of official agreements, creating the UNESCOSOST offices in Colombia and Brazil.

 

With the signing of the agreement between the UPC and Tecnológico de Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia, on 22/04/2014, by the rectors of the UPC, Dr. Enric Fossas, and Tecnológico de Antioquia, Professor Lorenzo Portocarrero, the UNESCOSOST offices system has been formalized.

The UNESCOSOST offices directly managing field projects from the different agreements and international cooperation promoted by the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability at UPC, on issues related to environmental technologies to promote sustainable human development in Latin America. These projects were initiated in 2008 in Medellin, with co-funding from the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), the City Council of Barcelona (Barcelona Solidarity Program), the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD) and the Center cooperation and Development (CCD) of the UPC, and incorporate both an aspect of development cooperation, and promotion of research and development.

The Rector from UFBA signed the agreement addenda with the UPC on 18/09/2014,  which confirms the formation of UNESCOSOST – Bahia Office at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA).
