The concept Recycling the City is developed in a collaborative project launched by the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability, of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. The project seeks to gather and disseminate the thinking and work of various authors engaged with urban and regional sustainability and whose work has been relevant in different cultural and climatic contexts. The publication Recycling the City. Rethinking transformation of cities will permit to reflect on new dynamics to make more resilient social and ecological urban systems. Recycle City gives the reader a broader perspective on these transformational processes and a series of successful experiences from around the world as well as the “tools” used to carry them out.
Recycling the City was intended to be a publication that allows the reader to rethink on how to create cycles and enhance processes towards a more sustainable operation of our cities. The aim is to transform them into more efficient, equitable and respectful communities with the ecosystems that surround them. The publication addresses the most important aspects of modern urban issues and seeks to contribute to the development of theoretical and practical work of professionals involved in construction and urban planning by spreading contributions made in the Latin American context.
